Police: Lee High Student, 17, Dies After Sunday Morning Crash

Driver, also a teen, was reportedly swerving to avoid hitting a deer, police say.

A teen has died after an early Sunday crash on Beulah Street, according to Fairfax County Police.

Steve Carbajal Fuentes, 17, died at the hospital following a crash that occurred on Sunday, Dec. 28 around 3 a.m. Police say he was from the Springfield area. NBC-4 reports that Carbajal was a student at Robert E. Lee High School.

Fuentes was a passenger in a 2006 Acura. The driver of the car, also 17, was driving southbound on Beulah Street prior to Steinway Avenue when they reportedly came upon a deer in the roadway and swerved to avoid it.

The vehicle slid, left the roadway and struck a telephone pole. Both the driver and passenger were transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital. The driver was treated and released.

Crash Reconstruction Unit detectives are continuing to investigate the crash; no charges have been placed yet.
