GOOCHLAND COUNTY, VA — A college student from Alexandria was identified as the victim of a Labor Day weekend crash on Interstate 64 in Goochland County, according to Virginia State Police.

The single-vehicle crash on Aug. 31 killed Brandon Dorns, 22, of alexandria and injured a passenger, Abanoub Zaki, 19, of Chesterfield. Police say Dorns was driving east when his Mazda 3 went off the road, hit an embankment and caught fire. Dorn died on the scene while Zaki was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

Dorns's Facebook profile says he studied pre-med at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond and previously attended Edison High School in the Franconia area.
