Resident, Dogs Rescued From Kingstowne House Fire

Investigators say Christmas lights and extension cords were involved in the fire.

KINGSTOWNE, VA — Firefighters made rescues in a Kingstowne area fire related to Christmas lights early Sunday.

Around 1:51 a.m., firefighters responded to the 6600 block of Briarleigh Way with fire showing from the exterior front wall. Units located a resident on the top floor where there was smoke. Firefighters rescued her and two dogs. There were no injuries.

The resident was alerted to the fire by the dogs barking. She found smoke and remained in the home until help arrived.

Fire investigators say the blaze started on the exterior by an electrical event involving extension cords and Christmas lights. Damages were estimated at $25,500.

The resident and dogs were displaced. Red Cross assistance was declined.
