Rose Hill Elementary Fundraising for Jamestown Field Trip

Parents and teachers of fourth grade students at Rose Hill Elementary School are receiving support from PTA and the school administration to raise money for the students to travel to Jamestown on an educational field trip.

Jenny Grigsby, a fourth grade parent, said it has been about nine years since the fourth grade class has made the trip to Jamestown Settlement even though it ties into the students' curriculum in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Due to budget restrictions, the school has not been able to organize the trip for its fourth graders.

The cost for the trip is about $40 per student for five classes of fourth graders, totaling 105 students. Teachers and parents have organized multiple fundraisers, including bake sales, raffles, donut sales and pizza sales. They also set up a concession stand at the school — which is also a polling center — during Election Day. The money will be used to pay for the bus, tickets and snacks for the students.

The students are hoping to make the trip on May 2 and have currently raised $120. Their goal is to raise $2,500 to cover the cost of the trip. Companies that have already shown their support for the fundraiser include Keller Williams Realty, ATG Title, Union Mortgage Group, American Tukong Balck Belt Academy and Express Pottery and Crafts.
