Rose Hill Fire Starts At Power Wiring In Basement

The fire department also said the residents' dog died from smoke inhalation in the April 14 fire.

Fire investigators determined the Saturday, April 14 blaze in Rose Hill was caused by an electrical wiring in the basement.

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue and Alexandria Fire Department units responded to the fire around 9:44 a.m. in the 6100 block of Squire Lane. Units found smoke showing from the back of the single family home and found a fire in the basement.

The residents had not been home at the time. A neighbor had noticed the fire and called 911. Firefighters found the family's dog dead due to smoke inhalation. No other injuries were reported.

The fire originated at an electrical line supplying power from the panel box in the basement. Damages to the home are estimated at $90K.

The two residents were displaced and have accepted Red Cross assistance.
