Rue21 to Close Springfield Mall Store

KINGSTOWNE, VA -- The Rue21 location at Springfield Town Center is among the 400 stores closing, the teen clothing retailer announced.

The retailer did not provide a date for closings indicates which locations are closing on its website. Nearby, the Potomac Mills location at 2700 Potomac Mills Circle in Woodbridge will close as well. The Manassas Mall and Spotsylvania Towne Centre locations will remain open.

CBS News said about one-third of the chain's stores will shutter as Rue 21 focuses on its online sales. The store closings will leave Rue21 with more than 700 stores nationwide. The retailer has locations in all states but Alaska and Hawaii. "It was a difficult but necessary decision," the Pennsylvania-based company said on a Facebook post.

Earlier this month, Bloomberg reported that the company was planning on filing for bankruptcy.

The store is located at 6777 Springfield Mall Springfield, VA 22150.
