Springfield resident's company to Release New Fashion Search App

April 7, 2015 – A Springfield resident’s company has launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund its visual search/shopping app, which allows users to search and shop visually matched fashion products via pictures.

“The concept of image shopping existed long before the show, but until today, Visual Chameleon is able to make ladies’ wishes come true by applying advanced computer vision technology,” explained Ke Shang, the company’s founder and Springfield-based entrepreneur.. “Our software can recognize fashion objects in 3D as humans do, no matter how the object appears in the photo or how busy the background is. We collected over 100,000 high-resolution shoe images from online retailers to prime our system, and our final testing returned a 98.3% accuracy rate!”

It works like this: When you like a pair of shoes or handbag you see onthe street or a social media site, it can be awkward to ask and impossible to find where to buy the exact product. Visual Chameleon now offers a solution: spot an item you love, snap a photo and upload it, and instantly see a list of identical or visually matched products, which can be bought right through the app.

If the idea sounds familiar, it may be because the app was inspired by the popular TV show The Big Bang Theory, where fashion-lover Penny suggests that Sheldon should write an algorithm to help her collect shoes.

The app’s upcoming features include a draw search, which provides users with templates to sketch and then search the shoes they have in mind but have never seen. An advanced search will also enable filtering by price, brand and color. The current app prototype is in iOS and covers only women shoes. With the funding goal reached, Visual Chameleon plans to release an Android version, and add women’s handbags and other products, including both women and mens’ fashion items and even furniture.
