Street Racing Draws Crowd At Kingstowne Towne Center: Report

There were reports of multiple locations where racing occurred Saturday night, including Kingstowne Towne Center.

KINGSTOWNE, VA — Street racing was reported at Kingstowne Towne Center and other locations Saturday night, according to media reports.

As first reported by FFX Now, there were hundreds of vehicles present for street racing at the shopping center. Street racing was later found in the Newington area.

According to a Fairfax County Police report, an estimated 100 to 200 cars were driving recklessly around 11:45 p.m. when police were called. As officers worked to disperse the crowds, there were two minor crashes. No injuries were reported.

Police continue to review video and photo evidence for the investigation. Police will consult with the Fairfax Commonwealth’s Attorney Office on charges.

Lee District Supervisor Rodney Lusk released a statement indicating he supported resources for police to prevent incidents like this in the future.

"As Chair of the Public Safety Committee, I take instances like what occurred Saturday extremely seriously," Lusk stated. "I am pleased with the immediate response of the Fairfax County Police Department, and I commend them on their ability to disperse the crowd without further escalation or injuries."

Capt. James Krause, commander of the Franconia District Station, asked anyone with information to contact police at 703-691-2131 or submit a tip through Crime Solvers.

"We will continue to work with our business owners as well as other County partners to prevent and deter similar incidents from happening in the future," Krause said in a statement. "Our officers monitor social media platforms for events throughout the County. Commanders at each district station allocate resources to address any concerns that may be posed to our community."
