Tom Perriello Crushes Ambulance In New Campaign Ad

Democratic candidate for governor Tom Perriello crushed an ambulance in a junkyard to show the impact of an Affordable Care Act repeal.

KINGSTOWNE, VA -- What would repealing Affordable Care Act do? Democratic candidate for governor Tom Perriello tries to illustrate this in a new campaign ad where an ambulance is crushed in the junkyard.

Perriello released the ad Thursday after House Republicans passed an Affordable Care Act repeal bill Thursday for Virginia governor.

"Republican leaders are trying to do this to affordable health care," the candidate says as the ambulance is crushed in the backdrop.

He goes on to say that as member of Congress, he voted to pass President Obama's signature healthcare law in 2010.

The Democratic candidate, whom Obama appointed to the State Department after a lost re-election bid, is running in the June 13 primary against current lieutenant governor Ralph Northam. Perriello has emphasized closeness to the former president in a campaign ad released Wednesday.

Federal and state actions have caused health care to become a key discussion points in the gubernatorial race. On Thursday, nearly all of its representatives in Congress voted 'no' on the Affordable Care Act repeal and replace bill. Rep. Rob Wittman (R-Montross) was the sole 'yes' from Northern Virginia. The area's other Republican, Barbara Comstock (R-McLean) voted no.

On the state level, Virginia has lost out on additional federal dollars by not expanding Medicaid. The Republican-controlled House of Delegates voted against Gov. Terry McAuliffe's Medicaid expansion amendment last month.
