Unruly Shoplifters Busted At Springfield Store

Investigations determined the suspects stole items from Springfield Town Center they intended to resell.

SPRINGFIELD, VA—Two suspects' intentions of reselling stolen items were thwarted when police caught them at Springfield Town Center Saturday.

Police say two women were making away with stolen items from JC Penney around 3 p.m. Little did they know, officers were watching and followed them into the parking lot.

The suspects were about to leave in the car when police arrived. One suspect attempted to flee, but officers caught her. Both were eventually arrested after one assaulted an officer and the other resisted arrest.

Keymonie Birden, 22, and Bria Lyles, 23, both of Maryland, face multiple charges. Birden was charged with three counts of possession of stolen property with intent to sell, three counts of grand larceny, possession of marijuana, possession of burglarious tools and resisting arrest. Lyles was charged with assault on a law enforcement officer, three counts of possession of stolen property with intent to sell, three counts of grand larceny, possession of marijuana and possession of burglarious tools.

Fairfax County Police are extra vigilant in seeking out mall robbers during the holiday season. Over the holiday weekend, they've also arrested four suspects believed to have fraudulently taken over $29,000 in items from at least 13 different Tysons Corner Center stores.

Last holiday season, police had recovered $315,000 in stolen property and assets. This includes $39,000 in merchandise and $68,925 in seized money and vehicles in the Franconia District, where Springfield Town Center is located.
