FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA — With snow in the forecast Thursday morning, Fairfax County Public Schools is switching to virtual learning.

On Thursday, students will have synchronous, teacher-led instruction on a two-hour delay for middle and high schools, and starting at 10:30 a.m. for elementary schools. The previously-scheduled two-hour early dismissal will remain in effect.

Per FCPS policy, the first five inclement weather days are traditional snow days, and additional inclement weather days will have virtual learning. As students were off from Jan. 3 to 7 after the Jan. 3 winter storm, the five traditional snow days have already been used. However, factors like power outages and technical issues will be taken into account for inclement weather days.

When FCPS expects a possible inclement weather day, students are encouraged to take their devices home from school and have them charged for a virtual learning day. Students should also check that they can access Schoology and Zoom links.

FCPS staff are expected to start work on time. All staff who can work remotely can do so. Those unable to telework should report to their work site. School and central office workspaces will be available. Unscheduled leave is in effect, and questions should be directed to supervisors.
