Wittenberg, Germany Choir Concert at St. John's Lutheran Church-Alexandria, Please join us for this evening of music

Greetings in the Name of Jesus!

Next year in 2017, we will be celebrating the 500th anniversary of the Reformation, which commemorates Martin Luther’s posting of his 95 theses on the doors of the Castle Church in Wittenberg, Germany. In advance of that celebration, St. John’s Lutheran Church is pleased to host a concert by the Gospel Choir from the Castle Church on Thursday, May 12, beginning at 7:30 pm in the Sanctuary of St. John’s. Please accept our invitation to join us at St. John’s for this special concert, which is free and open to the public. We ask that you kindly publicize this event within your congregation. The director of the Gospel Choir, Thomas Herzer, has shared the following information:

“The Gospel Choir of the Castle Church of Wittenberg was founded in 2008. We sing in worship services and give concerts in the Castle Church and other places in the area. Our repertoire consists mostly of spirituals and gospel music, and right now we are working on a
program of Luther hymns in a contemporary musical setting. There are 60 enthusiastic singers (43 on tour) who would like to share their love of singing with you. We also like to travel a lot. Choir tours have brought us to Belarus (2010), Denmark and Sweden (2011), and Pennsylvania (2013). Choirs and musical groups are a very important outreach from the churches into society, especially in East Germany where only 15% of the population belong to any church.”

This concert will be the first of four which the choir will give in this area from May 12-15. If you are unable to join us for the May 12 concert at St. John’s, please consider coming to one of the other concerts which will be given on these dates at the following locations:
