World Series Champ Ray Knight Charged With Assault

Ray Knight, known for his time playing for the New York Mets and Cincinnati Reds, is now facing assault charges in Fairfax County.

KINGSTOWNE, VA—A former Major League Baseball player and now analyst for the Washington Nationals is facing assault and battery charges from a dispute in his Kingstowne home Sunday.

Charles Ray Knight, 64, best known for his time playing for the New York Mets and Cincinnati Reds, was charged following an argument that escalated into a physical fight.

Police responded to a report of a fight in the 7500 block of Ashby Lane around 4 a.m. Sunday. An argument between Knight and an acquaintance, a 33-year-old man, turned physical, and both men sustained visible injuries. The victim was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Knight was also treated at a hospital and then taken to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.

He has since been released and will appear in court January 8, 2018. On Monday, he told Fox5DC, "I just don't want to comment. I just think that the process will take its place and I just know that anything that I say is not going to matter until the process works itself out."

Knight, best known for his time on the New York Mets and Cincinnati Reds, played for a number of Major League teams until retiring in 1988. He won the World Series with the Mets in 1986, where he scored the winning run in game six and was named MVP. Knight is also a two-time All Star. He has served in manager roles for the Reds and now is a broadcaster for ā€œNats Xtraā€ on the Mid-Atlantic Sports Network.
