More than a dozen Southwest, Southside schools get state construction grants (cardinalnews.org) — Lynchburg City Schools are receiving about $9 million in state construction grants plus $250,000 for security upgrades, funding work at multiple elementary and middle schools across the city. Projects include roof replacement at Sandusky Elementary, a new gym at Heritage Elementary, and extensive mechanical and safety improvements that city officials say will extend building life, improve learning environments, and boost school pride.

UVA Health Bringing Comprehensive Cancer Care to Lynchburg (virginianreview.com) — Cancer patients in Lynchburg will soon have easier access to UVA Health's oncology care, with a new clinic opening this fall at 103 Clifton Street in the Lynchburg Dialysis building. Most standard treatments, including infusions, will be offered locally, reducing trips to Charlottesville and creating new healthcare jobs as the clinic begins hiring later this month.

Virginia's Year-Round Ski Facility Faces Potential Closure (snowbrains.com) — Lynchburg skiers, snowboarders, and Liberty University students are rallying to save the Liberty Mountain Snowflex Center, the city's unique year-round synthetic ski slope now facing possible closure. A fast-growing petition and social media campaign highlight how much the facility means to local riders, families, and Liberty's ski and snowboard team as they urge the university to keep it open.
   

5. No. 17 Hornets Edged by No. 23 Ursinus, 2-1 (lynchburgsports.com) — University of Lynchburg field hockey fans saw the nationally ranked Hornets edged 2-1 at Ursinus, despite 13 saves from goalkeeper Shay Schoones. Lynchburg briefly tied the match in the second quarter, then pushed hard after halftime before being held without a shot in the fourth, and now continues its Pennsylvania road trip against No. 20 Dickinson.
