ā¢ Madison boosts deputy pay as officials warn Verizon landline phaseout could leave rural residents stranded (pjrnews.com) ā Madison County supervisors have approved a deputy pay raise to at least $60,104 starting September 1, aiming to ease serious staffing shortages that could even pull officers from schools. At the same meeting, officials moved to formally challenge Verizonās plan to end copper landline service, warning that weak cell coverage in areas like Etlan could leave residents without reliable 911 or medical alert connections.
