Police: Loud Noise Startles Intruder

A Gainesville homeowner apparently scared off a would-be burglar Monday night.

Prince William County police responded at 9:55 p.m. to a residence in the 14500 block of Collingham Place in Gainesville to investigate the attempted burglary, according to a police report.

The homeowner told police that she was in the living room of her home when she saw a figure in the backyard. At that point, a loud noise was heard and the homeowner screamed. The potential intruder immediately fled and was not seen, the police report said.

A rear door and window were found damaged, police said, but no entry was made into the home and no property was reported missing.
