Virginia, DC 100 Best Public High Schools: New List Released

McLEAN VA — Thomas Jefferson High School for Science & Technology in Alexandria, a public school in Fairfax County Public Schools, is the second-best public high school for 2019 in the United States, according to a new set of rankings released by data compiler Niche.com this week. Two Virginia high schools made the list of the 100 best public schools in the country.

The rankings were released as part of Niche’s 2019 K-12 rankings. Maggie Walker Governor's School in Richmond was ranked No. 15 in the country; no schools in the District of Columbia made the top 100.

Seven of the state's top schools are in Fairfax County, and the other three top places went to schools in Loudon County, Richmond and Arlington.

According to Niche, the best public high school in the country is Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy in Aurora, Illinois.
