📰 News we're reading

• A Bus Aims to Close This VA City's Ongoing Healthcare Gap With Free Services (jems.com) — Newport News' red-and-white Community Health Bus is bringing free screenings, mental health crisis help, and care navigation directly into neighborhoods, especially helping residents affected by Fishing Point Healthcare's Medicaid suspension. Run by the fire department with major hospital partners, the mobile clinic is visiting events citywide to close healthcare gaps for people who struggle to reach traditional providers.

• About 20,000 Dominion users are without power in Norfolk, across Hampton Roads (dailypress.com) — Hundreds of Newport News households are without Dominion power Saturday as part of a wider Hampton Roads outage blamed on salt buildup activated by rain. Crews are replacing damaged equipment with fiberglass cross arms, and restoration work is expected to continue into the evening, so you may want to prepare for possible extended disruptions at home or work.

• HRBT Closure Sends Peninsula-Bound Drivers to Alternate Routes Through Weekend (wtkr.com) — If you're heading between Newport News and Southside this weekend, expect major detours as the westbound Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel is closed for repaving until 5 a.m. Monday. Drivers are being routed to I-664 and the Monitor-Merrimac, and Norfolk's Ocean View residents are bracing for heavy congestion on local streets while hoping the work finishes on schedule.
