The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Norfolk.

Happy Wednesday, neighbors! Let's get you all caught up on what's happening locally to start today off on an informed note.

First, today's weather:

Partly sunny. High: 74 Low: 56.

Here are the top three stories today in Norfolk:

  1. Governor Glenn Youngkin announced that sports medicine company, Embody, Inc., will expand at Innovation Research Park at Old Dominion University adding 92 jobs. "Embody's growth in the City of Norfolk demonstrates the strength of research and development, higher education resources, and talent the Hampton Roads region offers innovative medical technology developers," Youngkin said in a press release yesterday. Norfolk's Director of Economic Development Jared Chalk said he hopes incentives encourage businesses to invest and grow in Norfolk. (WAVY.com)
  2. The City of Norfolk and the Norfolk District of U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will use $150M in additional funding from President Joe Biden's Bipartisan Infrastructure Law for coastal storm risk management, increasing the area's resilience to flooding. The monies will fund the design and construction of a multi-phase, comprehensive storm risk management project for the city. This project will assist in reducing and managing flooding for major parts of the city. (WAVY.com)
  3. Twenty-eight-year old Daniel Carrington of Norfolk was sentenced to 45 years in prison for manufacturing and distributing fentanyl, acetyl-fentanyl, and heroin resulting in a Chesapeake woman's death in 2019. Carrington had purchased the drugs in Baltimore, Maryland, to resell in Chesapeake and Hampton Roads. He was convicted by a jury in May 2021 on five counts related to drug conspiracy. (WAVY.com)

Where should you invest as a Norfolk resident with a $149,000 nest egg? Thanks to a change in the legal code, there's a new investment Norfolk residents need to know about. In fact, Bloomberg asked experts where they'd invest $100,000 right now and many of them chose it.

This may surprise you, but it's a fine art.

Growing your nest egg with art isn't new. Wealthy families like the Rockefellers have done it for centuries.

Here's why:

  • Low correlation to stocks according to Citi
  • Contemporary art historically returns 23.2% when inflation is >3%
  • Contemporary art prices outpaced the S&P 500 by 164% (1995-2021)

Translation: Art could be one of the best investments for uncertain times.

Luckily for you, we found Masterworks. This revolutionary platform lets you invest in art by Warhol, Monet, Picasso without spending millions.

The best part? Anyone from your area can skip their waitlist*.
