🌱 Businesses Struggle To Find Workers + Mall Shooter Identified
The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Norfolk.
Happy Friday, neighbors! Here's everything you need to know going on locally today.
First, today's weather:
Not as warm; a morning shower. High: 65 Low: 48.
Here are the top three stories today in Norfolk:
- Hampton Roads businesses are feeling the impact of "The Great Resignation," the term given to the mass voluntary job resignations of over 47 million Americans. Employers in the region are scrambling to find enough workers to fill their positions. "The business community is starving for people right now," said Steve Cook, the chief innovation officer for the Hampton Roads Workforce Council.
- City Manager Chip Filer announced on Wednesday that Norfolk Police Chief Larry Boone will be retiring at the end of April. Today is Chief Boone's last day leading the department. While Boone maintains that his departure was his choice, many believe that it was not.
- After a four-day investigation, Norfolk Police have identified 39-year old Gary Moore of Virginia Beach as the perpetrator of the fatal triple shooting at the MacArthur Center last Saturday. Moore is suspected of killing a man and injuring two others. Police Chief Larry D. Boone asked the community to help the police find Moore and bring justice to the family and friends of the victims.
