Centura College Launches Electrical Lineworker Training Program in Norfolk to Support Workforce Demand
Hands-on program aims to strengthen the region's talent pipeline for critical energy and infrastructure roles
Centura College marked the launch of its new Electrical Lineworker Program at its Norfolk campus on April 8 with a ribbon cutting ceremony, signaling a step forward in addressing growing workforce needs in the region’s energy and infrastructure sectors.
Behind every storm response and infrastructure project is a team of lineworkers keeping communities powered. As national demand for these professionals continues to rise, the new program is designed to help build a reliable, skilled talent pipeline to meet that need.
The 15-week program provides hands-on training in high-voltage safety, utility pole climbing, and field operations, preparing students for careers as electrical lineworkers. Through a partnership with Ancora Training, students also have the opportunity to earn a CDL license, providing a competitive advantage as they enter the workforce.

The event brought together Centura College leadership, Cotulla Education representatives, and regional partners, including Senator Christie Craig, the Hampton Roads Chamber, the Hampton Roads Workforce Council, and Pike Corporation. Attendees toured training facilities, observed demonstrations, and saw the program in action.
The program comes as Hampton Roads continues to experience significant growth, including more than $1.5 billion in new investments and over 1,400 jobs tied to energy and infrastructure projects. It is part of Centura College’s broader effort to expand career-focused training and address workforce gaps across Virginia and beyond.
