🌱 Church Street Jazz Series + Donate Blood For Super Bowl Entry

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Norfolk.

Happy Friday, people of Norfolk! Here's everything you need to know about what's happening in town today.

First, today's weather:

Clearing, breezy and colder. High: 37 Low: 25.

Here are the top three stories in Norfolk today:

  1. The Church Street Jazz Series founder is supporting student musicians in Norfolk. Series founder Jay Lang helps middle and high school students take classes and workshops hosted by jazz artists and meet industry leaders through his nonprofit, H. J. Lang Foundation. Donations and proceeds from the jazz series, now in it's sixth year, go to the foundation, which surprises one student with a brand-new instrument at each concert. (13newsnow.com WVEC)
  2. The Norfolk doctor who wanted to treat COVID-19 patients with ivermectin has resigned from his position at Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS). Dr. Paul Marik, an EVMS physician under contract at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, resigned to dedicate more time to multiple causes with the Front Line COVID-19 Critical Care Alliance (FLCCC) organization, according to a statement. Marik co-founded FLCCC, which regards ivermectin as "a core medication in the prevention and treatment of COVID-19," according to their website. (13newsnow.com WVEC)
  3. Norfolk residents have a chance to win super bowl tickets by donating blood to Red Cross. Due to a critically low supply of donated blood, those who give blood or plasma during Jan. will automatically be entered for a chance to win two tickets to Super Bowl LVI in Los Angeles, California. On top of the Super Bowl entry, donors will also be entered for the chance to win a home theater package. (Norfolk Patch)
