🌱Man Arrested After High-Speed Chase + Offshore Wind Project

Here are the top stories in Norfolk today:

1. A three-year-old African lion named Emery was recently euthanized after suffering from epilepsy. Ashley Mars, a spokesperson for the Virginia Zoo, said Emery was born at the zoo in 2017 and would have had his fourth birthday on Oct. 28. Mars said Emery "was diagnosed with epilepsy at a young age," and while zookeepers had been treating him, the medicines stopped working this fall. (13newsnow.com)
2. Christopher Northcraft of Maryland led police on a high-speed pursuit before crashing their vehicle at the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel last week. Northcraft and his girlfriend were both taken to Norfolk General Hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Northcraft made multiple attempts to escape including barricading himself in his hospital room and attempting to break a window to escape. He was unsuccessful and is now at Eastern Shore Regional Jail on warrants for felony eluding and reckless driving. (wtkr.com)
3. Dominion Energy will partner with Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy for their offshore wind project which will bring more than 300 new jobs to the Chesapeake region into Norfolk. 50 of the roughly 310 new jobs will be service jobs for the offshore project, and there will be hundreds of other indirect jobs needed to support the overall project. The project is expected to provide enough electricity for 660,000 homes when complete. (WAVY.com)
