Here are the top three stories today in Norfolk:

  1. Even in the rain and snow, hundreds of people lined up at the Military Circle Mall clinic to get tested for COVID-19. On Monday, Norfolk announced a 33 percent positivity rate, the highest positivity rate on record. Dr. Parham Jaberi, acting health director for the Norfolk Department of Health, said the plan is to soon add more COVID-19 testing at large vaccination clinics across Hampton Roads.   2. A Norfolk woman was arrested on New Year's Day for assaulting a man with a wooden chair. 26-year-old Sherina R. Good Voice Elk of Norfolk was arrested for second-degree domestic assault and was booked in the Norfolk City Jail before being transferred to Madison County Jail. The victim had several scratches and swelling on his body, and believed that his arm was broken in addition to the swelling. (KCAU 9)
  3. A Norfolk church, the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority, and Bayview Pharmacy partnered together in an effort to vaccinate more people. Together, they hosted a vaccination event to kick off the New Year at Basilica of St. Mary in Norfolk. Organizers say they saw more interest due to the omicron spike, and even ran out of vaccines.
