Here are the top stories today in Norfolk:
- A man was shot and injured Monday afternoon in Norfolk. Police responded around 4:25 p.m. to the 3200 block of Kimball Terrace for a report of a gunshot disturbance. He was taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with injuries that weren't considered life-threatening. Police said the preliminary investigation revealed the man and the suspect know each other. - The first firefighter to win a workers' compensation case for brain cancer was Norfolk firefighter Christopher Griffin. During the 2020 legislative session, state lawmakers expanded coverage for firefighters in Virginia, adding brain, testicular, and colon cancer to the list of presumed work-related illnesses. Griffin won the legal case in late September. He died from cancer a week and a half later on Oct. 1. (WAVY.com)

- A Norfolk man faces the possibility of decades in prison after being convicted of multiple charges accusing him of failing to protect his 4-year-old son from being beaten to death. (The Virginian-Pilot)
