🌱 Opposition To Rezoning Of Norfolk Church + Free COVID Tests
The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Norfolk.
Good morning, neighbors! It's me again, Carla, your host of the Norfolk Daily.
First, today's weather:
Warmer with clouds and sun. High: 63 Low: 59.
Here are the top three stories today in Norfolk:
- Free at-home rapid coronavirus test kits are being offered at Norfolk public libraries. The test kits, provided by the Virginia Department of Health, will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Participating libraries include Norfolk Public Library, Slover Library, Jordan-Newby Anchor Branch at Broad Creek, Mary D. Pretlow Anchor Branch and Richard A. Tucker Memorial Branch.(The Virginian-Pilot)
- Community members are concerned that a developer's plan to turn the historic Park Place United Methodist Church in Norfolk into high-end apartments will further gentrify the neighborhood. Beverly McDonald spoke in opposition to the plan stating that the redevelopment will create an imbalance in the community. The Norfolk City Council already voted in favor of rezoning the property, owned by Monument Properties, from institutional to multi-family. (The Virginian-Pilot)
- In an effort to crack down on violence and deter crime in the downtown area, the City of Norfolk announced its plans to increase patrols Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. In addition there will be unannounced visits from the Planning Department, Fire Marshal's Office, Departments of Planning and Neighborhood Services, and the City's Attorney's office. The increase in police and agency presence is in response to the shooting of five people on Granby Street earlier in the month. (13newsnow.com WVEC)

Where should you invest as a Norfolk resident with a $149,000 nest egg? Thanks to a change in the legal code, there's a new investment Norfolk residents need to know about. In fact, Bloomberg asked experts where they'd invest $100,000 right now and many of them chose it.
This may surprise you, but it's fine art.
Growing your nest egg with art isn't new. Wealthy families like the Rockefellers have done it for centuries.
Here's why:
- Low correlation to stocks according to Citi
- Contemporary art historically returns 23.2% when inflation is >3%
- Contemporary art prices outpaced the S&P 500 by 164% (1995-2021)
Translation: Art could be one of the best investments for uncertain times.
Luckily for you, we found Masterworks. This revolutionary platform lets you invest in art by Warhol, Monet, Picasso without spending millions.
The best part? Anyone from your area can skip their waitlist*.
