Here are the top three stories in Norfolk today:
- Two local students, Jordan Husk and Annalise Thapaliya, are honorable mention prize winners in C-SPAN's 2022 StudentCam competition. The international video documentary competition asked the question, "How does the federal government impact your life?" The high school students' answer, the safety of our drinking water, was explored in their six-minute documentary, "Diving into the Safe Drinking Water Act." (News 3 WTKR Norfolk)
- Hampton University President William Harvey announced that the university is offering free tuition, room, and board to up to 100 Ukrainian and international students displaced by the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The students will have the opportunity to continue their education here in the Hampton Roads area free of charge this summer, with the option to stay after the summer and pay regular tuition and fees. Dr. Harvey stated that the collective university faculty, staff, and students are heartbroken over the atrocities taking place in the war-torn country. (Richmond Free Press)
- Norfolk police have increased their presence downtown after a shooting on Granby Street last week that killed two and left three others injured. Virginia Pilot reporter Sierra Jenkins and semi-pro football player Devon "Malik" Harris died in the incident. The police have said they will increase patrols Thursday through Saturday.
