City Of Alexandria Bans Guns On Its Property

Alexandria City Council unanimously voted Saturday to ban guns and ammunition on city property. Beginning on July 1, it will be a Class 1 misdemeanor to possess, carry or transport firearms or ammunition in any city-owned or operated building, park or recreational or community facility as well as special events requiring a permit on public streets, roads, alleys, sidewalks or public right of way.

Republicans Nominate Marine To Oppose Wexton In 10th District

Aliscia Andrews, a political newcomer, won the Republican nomination Saturday to take on Rep. Jennifer Wexton (D) for Virginia's 10th congressional district after defeating three other candidates at the GOP's nominating convention in Winchester. Andrews won the nomination at the party's drive-thru nominating convention at Shenandoah University.

Arlington Work Crews Remove Chalk Messages About Racial Equality

Dozens of Arlington neighbors and residents have visited the home of Alex and Yavaal Hampton in the Boulevard Manor neighborhood in the last two days.

They were there to show support for the family, whose chalk messages in support of Black Lives Matter and racial equality were erased by Arlington County work crews Friday morning.

Virginia's Coronavirus Positive Rate Reaches New Low: Northam

Gov. Ralph Northam said Monday Virginia has reached a new low in the positive rate of coronavirus tests — 6.5 percent. All of Virginia remains in phase two of Northam's reopening plan as officials monitor increases in new infections in other states. The governor has not confirmed a start date for phase three but released guidelines last week.
