Roanoke's RAM House celebrates opening of new facility in Old Southwest (roanoke.com) — Roanoke Area Ministries' RAM House has opened its new Jain Care Center facility on Elm Avenue Southwest, already helping move seven people from the streets into recovery hospitals in just four weeks. Local leaders, including Mayor Joe Cobb, joined Friday's ribbon cutting, highlighting expanded recovery services and support available right in Old Southwest Roanoke.
   

2. Fifth president inaugurated as Virginia Western Community College celebrates 60 years (wset.com) — Virginia Western Community College in Roanoke has officially inaugurated Dr. Laura J. Treanor as its fifth president, capping a week of 60th-anniversary celebrations on campus and at the Jefferson Center. Local leaders, including Mayor Joe Cobb, joined educators and students as Treanor outlined a vision of "creating possibility" for Roanoke Valley learners through innovation, bold engagement, and expanded support like scholarships for nursing students.
   

3. Roanoke Crowd Presses Lt. Gov. Hashmi Over Dominion-NextEra Merger (theroanokestar.com) — Roanoke residents packed the Harrison Museum of African American Culture to press Lieutenant Governor Ghazala Hashmi about the proposed Dominion–NextEra Energy merger, which could create the nation's largest regulated utility. Local leaders, including Mayor Joe Cobb and Delegate Sam Rasoul, joined a panel as audience members voiced concerns about rising power bills and data center growth across Virginia.
   

4. Roanoke Doctor Lands Federal Grant to Test Psilocybin Against Cocaine Addiction (theroanokestar.com) — A Roanoke-based Carilion Clinic psychiatrist has secured a $623,000 federal grant, with potential to grow to $3.5 million, to study whether psilocybin can help people stop using cocaine. The research, conducted locally, will first focus on safety and tolerability, then explore how the drug's effects on neuroplasticity and perception might eventually lead to a new treatment option.
   

5. Roanoke community honors 9/11 sacrifice at annual memorial stair climb (wdbj7.com) — Community members and first responders in downtown Roanoke climbed more than 100 flights of stairs at the Wells Fargo Tower to honor those lost on 9/11. The 12th annual Roanoke 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb raises about $25,000 each year for the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation while helping younger generations understand the day's sacrifices.
