📰 News we're reading

• WJCC Superintendent pens message to parents concerned over recess time (wavy.com) — WJCC's superintendent is reassuring Williamsburg parents that the division has not issued a new policy cutting recess or lunch, and that elementary schedules still follow long-standing time guidelines. Some students have seen changes as principals adjusted master schedules, so leaders are now reviewing how much usable recess time kids actually get. Families will hear from their own principals within a week if schedules are tweaked.

• Rezoning sought for 250 'luxury' apartments at Quarterpath (williamsburgindependent.com) — A developer wants city approval to rezone land in Williamsburg's Quarterpath district for 250 new "luxury" apartments across from the existing Attain at Quarterpath complex. City documents project hundreds of new residents, added students in local schools, and a modest net tax gain, while a traffic study estimates about 1,500 extra daily trips. Public hearings have not yet been scheduled.

• Williamsburg driver got 2 red light tickets. The problem? It wasn't his car. (dailypress.com) — A Williamsburg resident in his seventies was mistakenly mailed two Virginia Beach red light camera tickets for a car he no longer owns and a license plate that doesn't match his records. After multiple affidavits and calls, the tickets were dismissed, but he still worries about how automated systems and possible AI tools could wrongly link plates to innocent drivers. His experience raises questions about safeguards and how easily others might just pay.
