Fire Officials Say Dryer Blamed for Alameda House Fire

The fire was reported in the 2200 block of San Antonio Avenue.

Fire investigators are blaming a dryer for a fire in an Alameda home earlier this evening.

Alameda Fire officials released details following the fire via Nixle Alert and Twitter:

Today at 5:27 p.m., the Alameda Fire Department received reports of a fire in a residence on the 2200 block of San Antonio Avenue. Firefighters arrived at 5:30 p.m., finding fire at the rear of a two-unit residence with heavy black smoke coming from the front.

Crews pulled hose lines and quickly began extinguishing the fire while others searched the residence for occupants and ventilated the building.

The fire was knocked down at 5:45 pm and extinguished at 5:55 pm. Fire damage was confined to one living unit’s laundry room and kitchen, with heat and smoke damage throughout the residence. There was no damage to the second living unit. There were 18 firefighters that responded. No injuries were reported. Occupants were displaced and assisted by the Red Cross.

AFD Fire Investigator determined that lint in the dryer caught fire. The fire then spread to the rest of the laundry room area and adjacent kitchen.

Alameda Police, Alameda Municipal Power and PG & E also responded.
