The homeowner called 911 to report the suspected burglar and police arrested the Walnut Creek man as he left carrying stolen property.

DANVILLE, CA — A Walnut Creek man was arrested on suspicion of burglarizing a Danville home early Wednesday morning, town officials said. A resident called police to report an intruder in her home on Savona Court at about 6 a.m., according to police. The woman was able to escape with her family.
Police said officers who responded to the scene found the suspect, later identified as Walnut Creek resident Saleem Jaser, 27, as he fled the home with stolen property in hand. Police arrested Jaser on suspicion of burglary, robbery, trespassing, child endangerment, grand theft, possession of stolen property, and prowling.
He was booked into the Martinez Detention Facility and is being held on $485,000 bail. Investigators are trying to determine if Jaser is connected to another residential burglary in Lafayette, according to police.

The burglary arrest comes less than a week after two suspects allegedly stole packages from homes along Valley Creek Lane in nearby Danville and after police and town officials issued a reminder to the community about a rash of car burglaries and thefts from cars parked in Danville, Alamo and Blackhawk. Since Dec. 1, four cases of petty theft from a vehicle have been reported in the Alamo/Blackhawk area, according to the Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office.
Between Dec. 11 through Dec. 20, Danville has been hit with 12 auto burglaries and three thefts from unsecured vehicles. Danville Police Chief Allan Shields said most of the stolen items had been left in plain sight. Other Tri-Valley cities have seen a spike in car burglaries this month.
Police said anyone with information about the Danville residential burglary case should contact Lt. Doug Muse at (925) 314-3700 or dmuse@danville.ca.gov.
