Fremont Burglary-in-Progress Results in Pursuit, Arrest

The homeowner tailed the fleeing suspect, sending police a photo of the car and a description.

FREMONT, CA — A 21-year-old alleged burglar is in custody after Fremont Police received a report of a burglary-in-progress. The home is in the 400 block of Rancho Arroyo Parkway. The resident came home and found the burglar still inside, Fremont police spokeswoman Geneva Bosques said.

The resident followed the burglar out of the home and tailed him for a few blocks, sending police a description of the suspect's Toyota Prius and a photo of it.

Police spotted the car a few miles away at Mission and Stevenson boulevards. Two patrol officers tried to pull it over but the suspect fled, Bosques said. He crashed into another car about a mile away. The driver of that car was injured and taken to a hospital.

The suspect kept going, but lost control of the car and crashed again. He took off on foot but police quickly caught up with him and arrested him, Bosques said.

The suspect's car had been stolen on Wednesday from the 36000 block of Soapberry Commons. It contained istolen items, according to Bosques.
