Apparent Marijuana Grow House Discovered By Hercules Landlady

The home sustained extensive damage including holes in the ceilings and black mold. (Breaking)

HERCULES, CA — The remnants of a suspected marijuana grow operation were discovered in a Hercules home by the landlady who owns the property, police said Wednesday.

The woman, who was not identified by police, said the people who were renting the home in the 1600 block of Swallow Way had blocked off the front windows in violation of the rental agreement, police said.

She tried unsuccessfully at least twice to contact the tenants and enter the home for an inspection. On Nov. 9, she entered the home after mailing a legal notice of inspection and discovered extensive damage to the
interior, police said.

Someone had built false walls and drilled holes in the ceilings to hang grow lights. She also found water damage and black mold in the bedrooms and discovered that the washer and dryer were gone, police said.

No one was home at the time and no arrests were announced by police.

Police, who were notified of the apparent grow operation on Tuesday afternoon, said they had already suspected the home was being used for that purpose but didn't say what led to those suspicions.
