Cheshire 2019 Elections: Candidates, Polling Places, Hours

Here's what you need to know concerning the 2019 Cheshire local elections including the candidates, polling places, voting hours and more.

CHESHIRE, CT — The polls are open and voting is underway in Cheshire’s municipal election. Seats on the town council and board of education are up for grabs. There will also be elections for board of assessment appeals, planning and zoning commission, zoning board of appeals and constables, along with several ballot questions.

Polls are open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Voters who are in line before 8 p.m. will be able to vote even after the deadline passes. You can find your poll location at the Secretary of the State website by entering your information.

For Council At-Large, residents will vote for any five candidates. The Democratic candidates are Lynn Alvey Dawson and Patti Flynn-Harris. The Republican candidates are Sylvia Nichols, Tom Slocum, David Borowy, Paul Bowman and Rob Oris.

The Town Council district races are as follows: 1st District) A. Fiona Pearson, Democrat, and David Veleber, Republican; 2nd District) Jim Jinks, Democrat, and Guy Darter, Republican; 3rd District) Jeffrey Falk, Democrat, and Don Walsh, Republican; and 4th District) Peter Talbot, Democrat, unopposed.

For the Board of Education, residents will vote for any four candidates. The Democratic candidates are: Jami Ferguson, Christopher Affie, Sam Rosenberg and Anne Harrigan. The Republican candidates are Tim White, Gary Riccini, Andrew Martelli and Faith Ham. Joseph Bango is running as a Petitioning Candidate.

Incumbent Town Clerk Laura Brennan, a Republican, is running unopposed.

For Board of Assessment Appeals, residents will vote for any two candidates. The Democratic candidates are Laura DeCaprio and Kathleen Held and Cathy Devlin is the Republican candidate.

For Planning and Zoning Commission (full term), residents will vote for any three candidates. The Democratic candidates are Robert Anderson and Matt Bowman. The Republican candidates are Robert N. Brucato and S. Woody Dawson. Residents will also vote for one candidate for Planning and Zoning Commission Alternate. Casey Downes is the Democratic candidate and Joseph Grippe is the Republican candidate.

For Zoning Board of Appeals, residents will vote for any three candidates. The Democratic candidates are Gerald Devine, Christine Norton, and Breina Schain. The Republican candidates are Jackie Cianci and John J. Hilzinger. Residents will also vote for one candidate for Zoning Board of Appeals Alternate. The Democratic candidate is Harold Jordan Jr. and the Republican candidate is Ginny Ogurick.

For Constables, residents will vote for any two candidates. The Democratic candidates are Aleta Looker and Ronald A. Gagliardi. The Republican candidates are James Nankin and Randy Raines.

Connecticut offers Election Day registration, but those who arrive need to be registered by 8 p.m. in order to vote. Unlike previously, registered voters standing in line before 8 p.m. to registrar won't guarantee the ability to vote.

Emergency application ballots are available for unforeseen circumstances within six days of the election.
