NEW CANAAN, CT — Michelle Troconis, who was sentenced to 14 and a half years in prison for the disappearance and death of Jennifer Farber Dulos, has filed a habeas petition to gain her release from jail, claiming ineffective counsel, the Hartford Courant and Stamford Advocate reported.

Troconis was found guilty on all charges she faced during her six-week trial:

  • Conspiracy to commit murder
  • Conspiracy to tamper with evidence
  • Tampering with physical evidence (2 counts)
  • Conspiracy to commit to tampering with physical evidence
  • Hindering prosecution

Following her arrest in 2019, Troconis was represented by attorney Andrew Bowman, who Troconis reportedly claims did not properly advise or prepare her before she spoke with investigators in the case.

Troconis was interviewed multiple times by local and state investigators, who were actively searching for Jennifer Dulos, and tapes from those interviews were crucial to Troconis' conviction.

In some of the footage, Troconis reportedly appears to contradict herself. Bowman was Troconis' attorney until February 2020, when attorney Jon Schoenhorn took over her defense. Patch reached out to Schoenhorn, but did not receive a reply.

Bowman told the Courant that at this time, he cannot discuss the case.

Jennifer Dulos, a New Canaan mother of five, vanished on May 24, 2019, and has not been found. She is believed to have been murdered by her estranged husband, Fotis Dulos, who prosecutors said was helped by Troconis.

Jennifer Dulos was declared dead by a probate judge in late-2023, more than four years after disappearance.

Troconis and her family have steadfastly maintained her innocence in the case. Fotis Dulos died in January 2020 following a suicide attempt.
