Timeline: 38 Days Missing and Still No Sign of Easton Couple
Court documents provide an almost day-by-day look at the clues and evidence in this mysterious case.

The search for missing Easton couple Jeffrey and Jeanette Navin continues and their whereabouts remain a mystery four weeks after authorities say they were last seen by their son, Kyle Navin.
Connecticut State Police detectives continue to search through rubble and ash in a Putnam landfill for evidence of human remains, the Hartford Courant reports.
Investigators and detectives have not found any human remains in their search of the landfill. The Navins own Westport-based J&J Refuse and their son Kyle is listed on the website as the Operations Manager. The garbage collected from J&J Refuse is transported to a plant in Bridgeport where it is incinerated and the ash sent to Putnam, the Courant reports.
Investigators arrested Kyle Navin earlier this week on federal gun charges after they found guns, ammunition and drugs in his Bridgeport home.
Weston Police, the Federal Bureau of Investigations and the Connecticut State Police Western District Major Crime Squad are all investigating the couple’s disappearance.
Below is a timeline of events related to the investigation according to court documents:
Aug. 4
- Last time the couple was seen. Last text conversation between Kyle and Jeffrey Navin. Jeffrey told Kyle he didn’t want to go home because he thought he would be framed.
- Security cameras capture video of someone driving Jeffrey Navin’s garbage truck on Center Road in Easton toward Jeffrey and Jeanette’s residence. Cameras capture a vehicle driven by Kyle Navin’s girlfriend following closely behind the truck. About 29 minutes later, security camera captures video of the vehicle of Kyle Navin’s girlfriend driving away from the Navin residence.
Aug. 5
- Kyle Navin purchases bleach, drain opener, Goo Gone stain remover and cleanup bags from Home Depot at 8:36 p.m. Police find this receipt in a search of his home a week later.
Aug. 7
- Annie Navin, Jeffrey Navin’s sister-in-law, reported the couple missing.
Aug. 9
- Police find the Navin’s car in a commuter parking lot off Exit 42 off of the Merritt Parkway.
Aug. 10
- Easton police request assistance from the Connecticut State Police Western District Major Crime Squad.
Aug. 13
- Police search Kyle Navin’s Bridgeport home and seize two firearms and numerous rounds of ammunition.
- Police release a statement from the family stating financial issues are not a factor in their disappearance. The couple was reportedly over $2,000,000 in debt on a home they owned in Guilford.
Aug. 19
- Second search of Kyle Navin’s home turns up numerous heroin brand-stamped glassine baggies with heroin residue, hypodermic needles, empty prescription bottles for oxycodone and prescription bottles containing other controlled substances.
- Connecticut State Police Western District Major Crime Squad take over the investigation.
Aug. 22
- Police find bullet hole and some blood in one of the Navin’s vehicles
- The Connecticut Post reported that the Kyle Navin was missing, however The Hour reported that he was staying with friends in Westport. According to police, Kyle was the last person to see the couple.
Sept. 8
- Kyle Navin is arrested and detained on federal gun charges.
Kyle Navin was to appear in court on Friday, Sept. 11 for a detention hearing but his attorney, Eugene Riccio of Bridgeport, requested a continuance to obtain additional information, the Courant reports.
A date for the hearing has not been set.
