Here are the top three stories today in Columbus:
- The Chevron gas station on the corner of Farr and Cusseta Road in Columbus, known for its frequent gun violence, has been demolished. After three shootings in one weekend last year, residents nearby are happy that the gas station and surrounding buildings are gone. One local resident, Richard Jessie, said, "I am so glad about what’s going on in South Columbus" with the development of the new football stadium and high school. (WTVM 9)
- Columbus Police released a video of the Feb. 19 shooting at Lakebottom Park near 18th Avenue and 19th Street. Police are searching for a white GMC Terrain SUV as well as the suspect. Contact Cpl. - The 28th Annual Empty Bowl Fundraiser, which benefits the Kid’s Cafe Program at Feeding the Valley Food Bank, is this weekend! The program provides meals and snacks to kids in need in more than 24 locations in Columbus and Phenix City. (WTVM 9)

- David and Jessica Best, a husband and wife paramedic duo, were named Piedmont Columbus Regional’s First Friday Heroes for the month of March! The couple works for Community Ambulance and helped their patient get out of an unsafe living environment. (WTVM 9)
- Many Columbus businesses have had their HVAC units, heating and air units, stolen. According to Marie Cliatt at Tree of Life Healthcare there have been "at least 30" HVAC robberies in the area of Talbotton Road, North Avenue, Hamilton Road, and portions of Machester Expressway." Cliatt, one of the victims of the mass thefts, is pushing for stricter laws to prevent it. (WTVM 9)
- The Muscogee County School District congratulates Cara Humphries on being named 2023 Library Media Specialist of the Year! Humphries oversees the library media center and STEAM lab at Reese Road Leadership Academy, serves on the Leadership Team and as the STEAM Chair, and much more.
