The Optimist Club of Columbus and nonprofits like Scarlett's Closet are channeling that money into support for children facing cancer, medical emergencies, and everyday challenges, all with the goal of making Columbus better for its kids.

5. Savannah Corps History (salvationarmyusa.org) — Georgia's Salvation Army story includes Columbus, where a Corps opened in 1895 as part of the organization's early statewide expansion. Today, the network of Corps, service centers, shelters, and thrift stores across Georgia continues providing food, housing, youth programs, and disaster relief, funded largely by community donations that mostly go straight into services.
