📰 News we're reading

1. Willowdale development returns to Planning Commission (daltoncitizen.com) — A proposed 42-acre residential development along Willowdale Road is headed back to the Dalton-Whitfield Planning Commission after the Dalton City Council unanimously returned its annexation and rezoning requests for another public hearing. The move lets officials and nearby Windemere residents review new traffic, buffering, and environmental details before any final decision on hundreds of potential new homes and added city services.

2. Inspectors find slimy lettuce, week-old pizza sauce, food and drinks prepped with bare hands (local3news.com) — Dalton diners can see how local favorites like Chick-fil-A on North Glenwood Avenue, several McDonald's locations, Pho Saigon, Red Lobster, and Danny's Cafe scored in recent health inspections, with most earning high marks but a few needing improvements. The broader Tennessee Valley report also details serious violations at some Chattanooga and Cleveland spots, underscoring why checking scores before eating out matters.

3. Children's Institute holding Abilities Without Limits conference, expo (daily-tribune.com) — Families, educators, and caregivers in Dalton can attend the Abilities Without Limits Conference & Expo on Friday, Oct. 30 at the Dalton Convention Center, hosted by Anna Shaw Children's Institute. The daylong event features speakers including autism advocate Tanner Smith, and offers practical strategies, networking, and local resources to better support people with differing abilities across home, school, work, and community settings.

4. Want free pizza? Several Georgia spots are offering deals this month (savannahnow.com) — Dalton residents can cash in on National Pizza Month with chain deals that include Schlotzsky's locations in town and other nearby communities. Throughout October, Georgia pizza fans will find discounts on whole pies, slices, wings, Halloween-themed pizzas, bonus rewards, and delivery perks from major brands, though availability and expiration dates vary by location.

5. Rabies vaccine drops scheduled to be distributed across Georgia (wgauradio.com) — Low-flying planes and helicopters will drop oral rabies vaccine baits over Dalton neighborhoods and surrounding north Georgia communities this month, aiming to curb wildlife rabies. Residents are urged not to disturb the baits, which are safe for people and pets, and to handle any necessary relocation with gloves or a bag before washing hands thoroughly.
