19th Annual Power in Truth Conference Held on Tuesday

Cobb & Douglas Public Health (CDPH), in partnership with the Live Healthy Douglas Coalition (LHD) and the Douglas County School System, hosted the 19th annual Power in Truth (PIT) conference on Tuesday, October 22.

The conference was held at the First Baptist Church of Douglasville and featured workshops designed to empower Douglas County middle and high school students to overcome negative influences, avoid high risk behaviors, and make informed decisions regarding their health. Students were selected by the school system to attend the free event which counted as a field trip.

This year New Manchester High School, Chapel Hill High School, and Turner Middle School were highlighted for their continued support of the PIT conference throughout the year. South Cobb High School was also in attendance; this is the first time a Cobb County school was invited to the conference.

“The Power in Truth conference encourages Douglas County students to make good decisions and to be a strong self-advocate,” said CDPH’s Youth Development Coordinator Nicole Turner, MS.

Award-Winning Speaker Keith L. Brown, also known as Mr. I’M POSSIBLE, was this year’s keynote speaker. He spoke to nearly 500 student attendees about the importance of believing in yourself and leading a positive life. “True leaders don’t worry about what others will think when they are doing what is right”.
