Douglas County Student Selected For U.S. Senate Youth Program
The honor includes a trip to Washington, D.C. and a $10,000 scholarship.

LITHIA SPRINGS, GA — Brandon Wilson, a senior at Lithia Springs High School in Douglas County, has been selected as one of two students from Georgia to participate in the the 58th annual U.S. Senate Youth Program. The purpose of the program is for outstanding high school students interested in pursuing a career in public service.
In March 2020, two student leaders from each state will spend a week in Washington, D.C., experiencing their national government in action. Student delegates will hear major policy addresses by senators, cabinet members, officials from the Departments of State and Defense, and directors of other federal agencies. They will also meet with the president and a justice of the U.S. Supreme Court.
In addition to the week-long trip in the nation’s capital, each student delegate will be awarded a $10,000 college scholarship for undergraduate studies, with encouragement to pursue coursework in history and political science.

To apply for the program, Wilson was required to take a civics test including questions about history, the U.S. Constitution and government. Those with the highest scores advanced to a phone interview.
Wilson currently serves as chair of the Douglas County Youth Commission. At Lithia Springs High School, he serves as president of both the Student Government Association and Future Business Leaders of America. He is the MCJROTC battalion commander and captain of the varsity golf team.

With aspirations to one day hold elected political office, Wilson plans to attend Morehouse College where he will major in business administration with a minor in religion. After college, he would like to work in a major Atlanta business in preparation for a career in politics.
