DSCO Concludes Investigation Into High-Speed Chase
Report: Some deputies violated an order to stop pursuit, but no evidence of excessive force.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office concluded its own investigation into a March high-speed chase that drew accusations of excessive force and led to the suspension of Douglasville Chief Chris Womack.

According a Douglas County Sentinel report, the agency said it found no evidence of excessive force, but three deputies did violate an order to stop their pursuit.

The investigation stemmed from the apprehension of suspect Morris Tommy Slaughter, who led a high-speed chase on March 2 that ended with a wreck on I-20. Slaughter faces multiple charges, including fleeing police, marijuana possession and reckless driving.

Also involved in the chase was Womack and a Douglasville PD officer. Womack was suspended with pay until June 25, as an investigation is completed into charges of excessive force.
On May 28, City Council authorized the Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council to conduct an independent investigation.
The investigation is to be completed before a scheduled special meeting on June 24.
