Election 2014 Results: Douglasville Voters Favored Dems for U.S. Senate, Governor

Michelle Nunn and Jason Carter carried Douglas County, but not Georgia in the general election.

Republicans won the top races in Georgia, but Douglas County voters gave a slight edge to the Democrats.

Michelle Nunn (U.S. Senate) and Jason Carter (Governor) carried the county in the two major votes, according to Georgia Secretary of State data. Douglas was one of around 30 counties statewide to vote Democratic in both races.

Nunn took 51.76 percent of the Douglas County vote, compared to 46.06 percent for David Perdue. Perdue won the Senate seat with 53 percent in Georgia.

Carter drew 51.3 percent of the local vote; Gov. Nathan Deal had 46.42 percent. Deal was re-elected with 52.8 percent of the statewide vote.

While Douglas County leaned Democratic in the top races, local voters tended to favor incumbents and Republicans in other statewide races (see local results below)

The Secretary of State’s office said 38,087 of Douglas County’s 83,031 registered voters cast their ballots, a voter turnout of 45.87 percent.
