Here are the top five stories today in Douglasville:

  1. The GBI is currently investigating Douglas County Commission Chairman, Romona Jackson Jones, after obtaining emails which indicate involvement in a county contract being intervened with. They are currently investigating to find out if there was any bid-rigging during the 2018 cleaning contract. The re-bidding of the contract has brought up suspicion and the investigation on whether or not Jones was involved is ongoing. (FOX 5 Atlanta)
  2. The Douglas County Board of Commissioners has unanimously approved almost three million dollars worth of funding for county road construction. Part of the construction will go towards the Stewart Mill and Reynolds Intersection Improvement Project which is anticipated to begin in October. The project will add a turn lane for drivers who are coming from Chapel Hill Road onto Reynolds from Stewart Mill. (Press Release Desk)
  3. There will be a Volunteer Luncheon at the Cultural Arts Council of Douglasville on Oct. 7. The luncheon will answer questions on what is like to volunteer with the council and will provide a free lunch!   4. On Monday morning, Douglas County Firefighters arrived at Lee Road at I-20 after a call reporting smoke and fire on the road. There was a moped engulfed in flames, but first responders did not find a rider at the scene. The situation was handled and resolved quickly so motorists were able to make it where they needed to go.   5. Lithia Springs Library has decided to showcase Turner Middle School students' artwork during the month of October. The branch manager, Dewayne Brown, noticed a piece done by a student and reached out to the school's art teacher, Beverly Sheng, to request the artwork be hung inside the library. The goal of the display is to show off the beauty and creativity of town to library patrons in a time when technology controls much of our communication with one another. (Press Release Desk)
