Here are the top five stories today in Douglasville:

  1. Douglasville's Bryson Irby helps East Tennessee State University land a win over Robert Morris. Irby landed a six-play, 66-yard drive, which was set up after a 44-yard run by Jacob Saylors. He breached the 3,000-yard career rushing mark, becoming the third ETSU running back to hit that milestone. (Elizabethton Star)
  2. The Cultural Arts Council of Douglasville/Douglas County held its first Multicultural Festival on Sep. 10. Over 500 guests came to learn about different cultures in the community. 20 local businesses or organizations attended as vendors. The Academy of Kuchipudi Dance taught the audience about traditional Kuchipudi dance styles before transitioning into a dance demonstration. (Press Release Desk)
  3. The Douglas County Board of Elections is celebrating National Voter Registration Day through a week of information for voters. Tesha Green, Board of Elections Deputy Director, said, "Any opportunity we have to open up and have the voters come out into the public and registered, we are here. It is important to get everyone registered that has the right to vote." The voter registration deadline for the upcoming election is Oct. 11, and early voting begins on Oct. 17. Saturday voting will take place on Oct. 22 and Oct. 29. (Press Release Desk)
  4. Douglas County Chief Judge William "Beau" McClain lifted a mandatory indoor mask policy for the Douglas County Courthouse. Judges can now manage their courtrooms as they see fit. Department heads can also operate their office spaces as they see fit. McClain said the county has transitioned from high, to medium, to low transmission rates in the past several days.
