  1. Douglasville native and "American Idol" finalist Megan Danielle received a warm welcome home during yesterday's "Hometown Hero" event series. The festivities began with a parade along Church Street, followed by a pep rally at the O'Neal Plaza, where Danielle received proclamations from Douglasville and Douglas County. The singer closed the night with a concert at Douglas County High School, her alma mater. (WSB-TV)
  2. Georgia Power customers in Douglas County and across the state can expect a 12 percent surge in their utility bills starting on Jun. 1. This follows a unanimous decision by the Public Service Commission to approve the increase. The rate hike, aimed at aligning with increased fuel costs, will result in an average monthly bill rise of approximately $16 as summer approaches in Georgia. (Patch)
  3. In recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month, the Douglas County Community Service Board (CSB) invites the community to attend the Mental Health and Criminal Justice Conversation Forum. The event will take place on Thursday, May 25 at 6:00 p.m. at the CSB Youth Innovation Center, just down the road in Lithia Springs.   4. Central Baptist Church in Douglasville will be hosting the Kids Law Enforcement Academy from Jul. 18-20, offering children an opportunity to engage with law enforcement.   5. On Monday, the Rotary Club of Douglas County held a special luncheon to recognize the dedication of emergency responders and public safety officials in protecting the local community.
