In Memory: Edward Larkin Clay, 87; Had Passion for Gardening
A retired nuclear specialist, he won the Douglas County Best Small Home Garden four times.

Edward Larkin Clay, age 87 of Douglasville, GA, passed away at home, Sunday, May 17, 2015.
He was born September 19, 1927, in Millard, VA.

He graduated from Tennessee Tech in Cookeville, TN with a B.S. in Industrial Arts. It was there that he met Virginia and they were married June 21, 1952. They lived in Oak Ridge and Knoxville, TN for several years before being transferred to Atlanta in 1972. He retired from the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission as a nuclear specialist in 1991. He had a passion for growing and canning vegetables from his garden for the last 42 years in Douglasville winning the Douglas County Best Small Home Garden four times. He was involved in sports – especially with grandsons, Bradley and Scott. He was a member of the Douglasville First United Methodist Church and did carpentry work with Jack-Leg-Angels, building and repairing houses and the Pregnancy Resource Center as well as working on Habitat houses. He was involved in many volunteer organizations, including a leader in the Boy Scouts as a member of the Trinity Methodist Church in Oak Ridge, TN.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia Broyles Clay of Douglasville; son: Edward Lindsey Clay and wife, Rose of Doylestown, PA; daughter: Lucinda Clay Sienkiewicz and husband, Alan of Braselton, GA; grandson: Bradley Sienkiewicz and wife, Mandy of Woodstock, GA; Grandson: Scott Sienkiewicz and wife Carrie Ann of Cumming, GA; great grandsons: Jack Sienkiewicz and Brady Sienkiewicz; great granddaughter: Morgan Sienkiewicz; sisters-in-law: Shirley Clay of Clarksville, TN, Lucille Clay of Abingdon, VA and Rebecca Langley of Cookeville, TN; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Leonard Clay and Linda Stanley Clay. Ed was one of 14 children, 7 boys and 6 girls predeceased him.
Services will be held Thursday, May 21, 2015 at 2:00 PM at the Douglasville First United Methodist Church, with visitation in the Huffine Hall from 12:30 until 1:45. A Graveside Service will be held on Friday, May 22, 2015 at 1PM Central Time in the family cemetery of the Salem Methodist Church, Cookeville, Tennessee.
