National Open Visual Arts Show on Display at the Cultural Arts Council

The Cultural Arts Council of Douglasville/Douglas County presents the third annual National Open Visual Arts Show, otherwise known as NOVAS, with more than 80 artworks selected by the Cultural Arts Council’s Gallery Committee.

The exhibit opens on Sunday, November 9th and will remain on view through November 26th.

Hosted by the Douglas County Art Guild, the opening reception will be held this Sunday, November 9th, from 3 until 5 p.m. at the Cultural Arts Council. Gallery admission, tour and reception are free. Special gallery tours are also available by calling the CAC to schedule an appointment – 770.949.2787.

The NOVAS exhibit promotes an appreciation of the visual arts, enables artists to exhibit their work, and allows local citizens to enjoy a wide variety of high-quality art from around the country.

Of the 134 artworks submitted by 46 artists living and working across the United States, the 2014 Gallery Committee selected 84 pieces for the upcoming exhibit. Those selected include many artists who have participated in previous years as well as newcomers to the Cultural Arts Council.

This year’s exhibit features a large selection of paintings and photographs; not to be outdone by their peers, sculptors and ceramic artists have submitted phenomenal works of art that are sure to impress all visitors.

One such sculptor is returning artist Pokey Park from Tucson, AZ. Her piece, Burrowing Owl, an exquisite bronze sculpture, playfully infuses a whimsical character to an animal typically associated with grace and intellect.

Carol Collins’ Patch Work by Nature takes painting in a new direction as she incorporates other elements to create this vibrant mixed-media landscape.

Natasha Stansel’s 35mm film photograph, Tincture and Time, takes us back to an era before digital photography as she uses multiple exposures on film to create a hauntingly beautiful landscape.

Since the holidays are just around the corner, the best time to start collecting art is now – and the trick is knowing where to look. Most NOVAS entries are for sale and this exhibit is the place to select the perfect complement to your personal style or that of your loved ones.
