Here are the top five stories today in Douglasville:
- Police are currently investigating a possible shooting at a Douglasville motel involving a 3-year-old child. Officers responded to a call at the Intown Suites Extended Stay motel on Saturday morning, where a 911 caller reported the child had hit their head on the refrigerator. However, paramedics told Douglasville police the story was not consistent with the toddler's injuries, and authorities "strongly suspect" the 3-year-old had been shot. (WSB Atlanta)
- The Douglasville Police Department (DPD) is calling on the community to assist our neighbors in Spalding County. The city of Griffin has recently suffered significant losses from tornado damage. Through Wednesday, Jan. 25 at 12 p.m., DPD will be accepting various items for donation, including toiletries, canned goods, and medical supplies. (Douglasville Police Department via Facebook)
- The Douglas County Master Gardeners announced a new Seed Starting Program, running in March at the DCMG Greenhouse. Participants are invited to come to the greenhouse on Mar. 11, 16, or 20 and learn about best practices for seed starting. Registration is $25 and includes soil, seeds, and trays. - Douglas County and Atlanta firefighters recently gathered in Douglasville for Structural Fire Control training. From Jan. 19-20, participants participated in various training exercises at the L. Wayne Arrington Fire and EMS Training facility. Those who complete the class at the state level would be eligible to become certified live fire training instructors. - Registration is open for the Night to Shine Prom, a dance for people with special needs aged 14 and up. The unforgettable event will take place on Feb. 10 from 6-9 p.m. at Crossroads Church and First Presbyterian Church. Both guests and volunteers can register online. (Douglasville Patch)

- The Douglasville man who was filmed shouting racial slurs at a local FedEx driver has reportedly been identified. Joseph Shane Bragg, 49, is accused in the incident; however, as of Sunday, it has not been officially confirmed that he is the man in the video. (CONAN Daily)
